Gloves | One, two, or neither?

golf -> articles

Golf is a funny old game, and it can make us feel all sorts of emotions.

It can be really disappointing when you head onto your favourite hole on the course only to strike your drive out of bounds or into a body of water. It can also feel amazing however when you strike a pitch shot just right and your ball comes to rest surprisingly close to the hole.

You may love it or hate it depending on the round you’re currently having, but the sport keeps us coming back for more. Nothing quite beats smashing a target or breaking the handicap barrier you’ve been chasing.

So yes, golf makes us feel all sorts of things, but ‘feel’ itself is an integral part of the game. Think about it, pulling off a great shot fundamentally depends on you having a strong-feeling grip on your club.

What gives us the best sense of feel when we’re holding our clubs? Golf gloves. Today we want to remind you of the importance of golf gloves, as well as offer you a fantastic recommendation in the form of the latest gloves from FootJoy.

Why do we wear golf gloves?

Can you remember where you were the very first time you put on a golf glove? If the answer is yes, you clearly only started playing golf recently or it was a very powerful memory!

That being said, it is fascinating how quickly our fingers get used to the strange sensation of slipping on a golf glove, only for us to get used to it and completely forget we’re wearing one minutes later.

Golf gloves help give us more grip on our subordinate hand and give us more traction on the golf grip while our dominant hand brings the club round in our swing.

However, not everyone wears their gloves the same way.

How do you wear yours?

When it comes to golf gloves, there are no rules about the kind you should wear or whether you should even wear any in the first place. Some golfers don’t wear gloves at all, while some people, including PGA Tour pro Aaron Rai, prefer to wear gloves on both hands.

Some golfers will wear a glove on their subordinate hand, and nothing on their other hand. Most of us tend to take our gloves off when we’re putting on the greens, why is that?

There are so many different combinations of feel to try out when it comes to gloves; a glove on one hand, both hands, no gloves when putting, no gloves when chipping, keeping them on the whole time, just to name a few.

The simple fact is, golf gloves may not be for you, but if you always wear them, you’ll feel very unfamiliar trying to play without them, and more prone to mis-hitting your shots. You’ll feel more tense in your hands without a glove, and this tension in your arms and wrists will negatively affect how you swing the club.

We now want to illustrate to you how the latest FootJoy gloves are designed to be comfortable and give you an excellent grip the entire time you’re wearing them.

The FootJoy RainGrip gloves will give you exceptional grip in all weather conditions. This glove features QuickDry, a knit material that runs along the back of the fingers and offers the wearer both breathability and quick-drying comfort. The palm section of the glove is made from an Autosuede knit that offers a secure grip in wet weather conditions. So essentially, the rain will run off the back of your fingers, while the palm retains a strong connection with your golf grips. The RainGrip glove also has a secure velcro fastening and comes with a removable ball marker included.

Perfect for playing golf in the cold, the WinterSof golf gloves from FootJoy are made from a waterproof nylon and features a weather-shield foam fleece on the back to retain heat. This glove similarly has an Autosuede knit palm, so whether the forecast is calling for a frosty chill or a downpour of rain, you’ll retain a strong connection with your golf grips all round long. A nice touch from FootJoy, this glove also has high contrast reflective piping to give you greater visibility over your grip and hand alignment. The extended knit cuffs also helps trap warmth at the wrist.
